WAR Chip - USB Device Descriptor Request Failed

(1/1)

smittoid:
Hi all,

I am having trouble accessing the WAR chip from USB. It had been working correctly with the WAR software. After a failed upload attempt and me messing around with the files, it stopped appearing in Windows. At this point, when I plug it in, Windows recognizes a new USB device, starts to load it, and after a minute or so, the USB drive appears. Within a few seconds, the drive goes away and the error below pops up.

For full disclosure, I had been having upload problems (the 9% problem caused by newer Java). I had not seen the posting about reverting back to older Java, so I messed around and deleted the files directly from the USB drive that is created when it is plugged in. The issue seemed to come up after that, so I am hoping I did not "brick" the WAR chip.

Any help would be massively appreciated. Is there some way to "hard reset" the device?

Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\5&23841c36&0&2 had a problem starting.

It is possible the computer has decided to permanently reject the device. I would try it in another computer and format it while on that new computer. I have never seen a WAR Chip brick. But I have seen computers lock it out until you reformat it on another system.

Also try uninstalling the driver manually through the Hardware wizard in My Computer.

Thanks for the reply! I tried from another computer and it did work. For full disclosure, the machine I had the problem with was running Windows 8 (with XP in a VM), so I suspect that the Win 8 operating system did not know what to do with the WAR chip.

I tried from a machine running XP natively, and it worked fine.

The latest version of Windows 8 does not have "XP Mode" any longer, so I am wondering how others are using a virtual machine from Win 8? Does Virtual Box or VM Ware work?

millerperformance:
VMware should work but I have not personally tried it. Thankfully, our Windows 7 and 8 version will be available soon.
