Title: USB kills the (stupidly old ) laptop

so, i had to dig up an old laptop to use XP, and installed a fresh version, set it up, and all i did was insert the USB that is with the chip on it and it kills the laptop.

now, i get
windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
please re-install a copy of the above file...
