Title: Windows 7 and the WAR Chip
Post by: millerperformance on August 06, 2013, 02:51:12 PM
As many of you know, WAR for Windows requires Windows XP to function properly. This isn't the software's fault and you actually can install the program on Windows 7. The problem lies with the WAR Chip itself and communication to Windows.

If you Have Windows 7 Pro or Higher, you can install Microsoft's Virtual PC for free and run Windows XP that they provide. If you do not have Windows 7 Pro or better, you can use a program called VMware and install a virtual copy of Windows XP that way.

Here is the link to the Windows7 Virtual PC platform: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3702 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3702)

Again, we are working on resolving the compatibility of the chip and Win7. Once this is ready, existing chips will need a firmware update which we will provide instructions on how to complete it.

Here is a picture of what is should look like. Obviously the tune names will depend on what files you are running or what names you saved them as before writing.

You should always have 4 tunes even if they are 4 of the same and the fifth file that says "mpcchip" If you have 5 files total everything is working as it should.

Do you know how to use Virtual XP? You cannot use windows 7 with the WAR Chip unless you use VirtualXP.

From our FAQ in this section,

Where can I re-download the WAR tuning program from?

If you need to run the wizard again, please follow this link:

You can download tunes from this forum in the WAR Cache.

is it possible to download the war software without having the chip connected to the PC?
i'm waiting for my chip to arrive and been trying to install the software to my VMware version of XP pro but no use, whenever i click on the file that is named: THIS_RUNS_WIZARD all it does is open the java folder in the windows folder C:\WINDOWS\java

is there something wrong or this is a normal case due to the WAR chip not being connected to the PC?

I was able to install the software without having my WAR chip connected on both, an xp laptop as well as my win 7 desktop box. Try extracting the Wizard Files to a folder and running the executable MillerWizard.jar file.

So this means that eventually, The WAR Chip will work directly with Windows 7 without the need for Virtual XP? Was just looking at the XP Mode information over at Microsoft.com and it says that they will be ending all support (including security upgrades) for XP on 4/8/2014 and anyone using XP after that time may become more vulnerable to viruses, etc. when connected to the internet. Will the WAR Chip Windows 7 compatibility be corrected by then?

hey guys,

any update on the new software?
microsoft dropped all support related to windows XP and it became absolute.
plus the current software is really annoying with the matter of tune position switching each time we write to the chip.

will we have the option of tuning the car and writing to the chip without switching the car off each time we write to the chip ?

i've also noticed some glitches when turning the launch control option on and off.

is there a beta edition for windows 7, or an expected time of providing us with the new software ?
