Turbo Tuning / Re: E85 tuning

11ms isn't related to any boost level. It is load. You can have nearly 11ms load at 5 psi, going up a huge steep hill and having the engine work hard either low RPM with lots of load or High RPM with lots of load.

You can't correlate boost to load on these ECU's. How did the tuning go? We tried emailing your file back to you before you were off to dyno on e85 etc. The file that you are using now, please email that one more time, and we will make the same changes.

General Discussion / Re: 402 Tune on 403 ECU?
« on: October 07, 2013, 01:51:15 PM »
The 402 ECU software is not compatible with the 403 or 405. The 403 and 405 ECU's are cross compatible though. The easy solution is to simply swap ECU's since the ECU's will work in either car. The limitation is the actual tune file being compatible from one ECU type to the next.

If you put a 402 ECU in your car with the WAR Chip and the base tune we have posted, you will be on your way.

Hi,

We don't have anything specific for your set up. If you were to come to us for a dyno tune, we would start with our GEN III MAF tune for your ECU since it will actually be pretty good as a starting point.

I just want to clarify your concern though. Are you saying you can't see any tunes for the 055 ECU or just can't find once specific for your exact plans?

Hi Ifty,

Thanks for the reply, was worried we lost you! What I was referring to is an aftermarket WIDEBAND air fuel ratio gauge. These are fairly cheap nowadays and tell you a proper value instead of a limited narrowband value (stock sort of system for these cars if they had O2 sensors)

If you got a wideband like this one, https://www.millerperformancecars.com/store/gauges/aem-wideband-sensor-detail
you would know exactly how rich or how lean your car is running and then the corrections to the maps can be made. It is a valuable tool to help troubleshoot your engine anytime problems occur. Since it tells you an exact ratio, it would help point you in the direction you need to go for proper diagnosis. It is also great peace of mind to know your car is not running overly rich or too lean rather than just guessing.

WAR Hardware Support / Re: Fitting chip into 404 DME?
« on: October 03, 2013, 07:05:47 PM »
The 404 is the toughest ECU to fit. That metal clamp can be modified. We usually pull it off carefully and grind the material away to help make more room. While it is possible to make it fit without the grinding, it is advised to take a little time to do so. That metal is clamped by spring tension and with a little bit of massaging, comes off ok. Just don't force it.

Sweet! Thanks for the confirmation. We need more WAR Chip pioneers like yourself because we simply can't do everything. 8)

Can you scan and post your dyno graph? I want to see if it is bad or just the normal petering out. You can use a couple methods, VANOS on or off permanently and then play with timing to (usually bringing it down) to keep things from climbing past your allowable HP.

However, since HP is simply a function of torque and RPM, to keep HP flat after a certain point, TQ will have to fall (and maybe fall fast) as the RPM's rise.

Turbo Tuning / Re: jittery at low rpms. and check engine light
« on: September 25, 2013, 04:14:05 PM »
I hope I'm not thread jacking here, but i thought it was relevant. I'm also having similar issues. My idle is set to 1,000 rpm and is afr is spot on at 14.7 when shes cold, she idles great.
As soon as she reaches close to operating temp my idle drops down a bit to around 800 rpm, and afr climbs to around 16.5 then finally to 17.2 and stays there.
My O2 sensor is 11" away from turbo, i've tested it with O2 off to see if there is a change and no change.

Have you been able to add fuel with the WAR Chip and richen it up?

We recommend putting the O2 sensor NO FURTHER than 18" from the turbo. You have to remember, even more so, if using a tubular manifold, you have so much more tubing for the exhaust gases to travel before it gets to your O2 sensor. The closer the O2 sensor is to the turbine, the better. O2 sensors need heat and the hotter the exhaust the more accurate it will be.

Many times we see weird idle problems related to O2 sensor placement and or O2 heater relay problems.

How far away is your O2 sensor from the turbine outlet? What happens if you simply turn the O2 sensor off in the software?

Have you been able to get any air fuel ratio data for us? I really want to help get you sorted. It should be a walk in the park.

Hey Ifty,

I went through this thread and made it so the images would show up properly. In the future, all you need to do is copy the URL of the picture, click the button on the bottom row all the way to the right which will make "[img ] [ /img]" pop up. Simply paste the URL between those two img codes and they will display as a picture instead of a link.

It's just a guess. We have never needed to use the anything larger than 42's on the M30. We've used ID1000's on the M|S5x engines, but they don't fire the injectors they same as Motronic 1.3

The Id 1000's are great, they offer really good injection at super low pulse width but I can't say, "Yes, they will work" because we've never used them on an M30. You can try them for sure, and if you are using e85 and the WAR Chip, you will be able to adjust the fuel accordingly. I just don't know if it would be well suited for a pump gas situation. Again, because MORE e85 fuel is required in the same situation as normal gasoline, the "self" scaling by nature would help make it possible to use our 42# base file and adjust it to suit e85.

We need WAR Chip pioneers! We can't possibly try every set up possible, we just don't have the time, money or more importantly access to hundreds of people localling needing crazy tunes.

Not at all, I guess everyone was waiting for me to answer. E85 requires more fuel. 42# injectors, for E85 are considered small. We have not done any e85 tunes for 535's before for a couple reason. Mainly the rarity of customers going for BIG power with an m30 and the lack of E85 to develop with in Canada.

That being said, E85 requires more fuel to do the same "work" as gasoline. You could theoretically use our 42# base mapping and use larger injectors with some tuning and get out ahead with the e85. I would recommend 55# injectors and at most, 60#. The way these ECU's fire the injectors, we don't think that idle would be stable with bigger than 60's

Again, we have never played with E85 on the M30 engine nor have we had customers need to go north of 550 WHP.

A larger pump would be in order too, but there are many things to consider. If you are going super serious with e85 larger and different material lines may be suggested. The fuel rail should suffice.

We can send a cartridge only. It will be cheaper than buying an entire MAF too.
