Turbo Tuning / Re: 173 Launch control
« on: September 14, 2013, 01:59:34 PM »
The RPM limit logic in the 173 ECU is different. You could wire in a switch to the TCM to activate a "different" tune with a lower RPM limit and do launch control that way though. You could wire it to the clutch switch or button on an aftermarket wheel or shift knob.

I have rewired the wiring at the ECU, rewired the extension wires going to the MAF sensor going to the passenger side for the draw/pull threw maf setup, I have checked continuity from the original wires at the old connector location to the wires going to the war maf sensor, key on engine off I have 12v when checking from pin4 to pin3 when I check voltage from pin4 to pin2 I get .003v which isnt no where close to the spec called for, I can unplug the maf sensor and check the same pins pin4 to pin2 and get .3v which IIRC is within spec, Id like to assume its a faulty maf sensor? any insight on this? thank you for any guidance given.

Do you mean 3.5" Housing? Our turbo M20 stuff requires a 3.5" diameter housing. Regardless, .3 volts is way off. You should have 12 v on pin 3 and 4. Between pin 2 and 4 you should see 1v with the ignition on, engine off. With the engine running, you should see around 1.5v maybe a bit less with the 3.5" housing.

If the MAF was ever plugged in wrong (which is possible) there is a high chance of damaging the circuitry inside. If it is a used MAF then who knows what the previous owner could have done in the past. All our MAF's and WAR Chips are electrically bench tested before they are boxed up to ensure dead sensors don't make it out the door. Yes, we get the odd dead sensor right from BOSCH and there is nothing we can do but throw it away since warranty voids as soon as the box is opened.

Did you buy this new or used?

Just a note, many times a customer notices that their tune feels "slower" because the car is smoother in the RPM rather than a sudden burst of power. This effect happens many times.

However, if you have a wideband air fuel ratio gauge can you please tell me HOW rich the car is running? I need this basic data to be able to help you out. If you want, you can remove some fuel from WOT to lean it out and see if that helps. Does your car have an O2 sensor from factory?

I can help you easily, but I and anyone else who wants to help needs the basic information, AFR. Without that, we don't know HOW much to adjust fuel.

That is really strange. Please email us YOUR tune right off your WAR Chip. You shouldn't have a CEL problem at all. All you need to do is copy the tunes off your WAR Chip via My Computer as if it were a USB memory stick. Also, if you can snap a picture of your chip that would be great. Once in a super blue moon, the WAR Chip will exhibit a CEL simply because all of the electrically tolerances will be on one extreme or another. If they are on the low resistance side, the WAR Chip starts up a millisecond too slow and the ECU fails to verify the first few lines of code causing it to THINK that there is missing or corrupt data.

Make sure you run through the MAF troubleshooting guide here: www.millerperformancecars.com/files/Manuals/Troubleshooting%20Guide.pdf

sounds like you don't have your MAF installed right.

If you check out this forum, on the main page, you will see the WAR Room section. There, you can find your appropriate ECU and go into the tune cache for said ECU type. You will find a list of available tunes with a link at the bottom to download. This is something we just posted late last week to make the WAR Chip as convenient as possible.

here is a quick link to it: http://forums.millerperformancecars.com/index.php?topic=38.0

Hi Nate,

Correct, that code does not trigger any sort of limp mode. What color is your WAR Chip and what tune are you running. Also, what ECU. Thanks.

Scottie, I was digging around in our ridiculous amount of files in our archived stuff and found a tune with your name on it. I am assuming it is your "current" tune but it has been so incredibly long that I can't be 100% certain of it's requirements. There are no notes on the file but it was created in 2009.

WAR Software Support / WAR Chip FAQ
« on: September 05, 2013, 10:39:45 AM »
What is required to use the WAR chip?

- A car with OBDI electronics. These are typically cars from 1995 or OLDER
- A laptop or desktop computer with Windows XP computer
- Current Java
- A working Internet connection for initial setup
- Decent understanding of how to use Microsoft Windows XP.

Can I use Windows 7 (or other operating systems) in compatibility mode?

No, you cannot use Windows 7 OR Windows7 in “compatibility mode" at this time. You must use Windows XP or if you absolutely are stuck with a Windows 7 Machine, VirtualXP which is provided for free by Microsoft will allow the WAR Chip to communicate with windows properly.

My car won’t start

There could be a few causes to this:

1. Make sure you have run through the setup wizard. From the factory, our WAR Chips do not have tunes on them. You must run the setup wizard stored on the chip to get your first base tunes.
2. Make sure you are “writing” the files to the WAR Chip. Saving files stores them on your laptop or desktop, writing files actually puts them on the WAR Chip.
3. Make sure you are using Windows XP or VirtualXP if you are Windows 7 user. There is no guarantee that the WAR Chip will behave as designed on native Windows7 systems.
4. Make sure you unplug the WAR Chip from your laptop when you try to operate the car. The car will not run if the WAR Chip is connected to a laptop or desktop computer.

My tunes changed places when I read my chip

This is a temporary bug with the current version of the WAR tuning software. The tunes only shift over in the windows software, not on the chip. If you write the files back, they will be in the position displayed in the software. If you do not write the files again, they will be in the original position you had them in.

How do I put files on the WAR chip?

Select “file” then click “write”. The writing process should take between 1 - 2 minutes. Saving tunes is meant to store them on the laptop or desktop computer. “Writing” files puts them on the WAR Chip.

What does, “Incompatible Data file” mean?

There are two reasons for this. You don’t have an .ECU file selected OR you are using the wrong tunes for the .ECU you have selected. The .ECU file is the display instructions for the tune. Because each type of ECU has different maps in different locations in the software, you need to make sure you are using the right .ECU and tune files together. For example, if you have a 173 ECU and have the 173.ECU file selected you must use tune for the 173 ECU. If you try and use tunes for a 413 ECU you will get the “incompatible data file” message.

On the other hand, make sure the WAR Chip software knows what ECU file you are trying to work with. You will be able to look in the top left of the WAR For Windows window bar. There it will say, “Miller WAR Chip: BOSCH 179” for example. If it simply says, “Miller WAR Chip” then you do not have a .ECU file selected and need to do so. Refer to page 24 of the WAR Chip manual. It talks about adding .ECU Files.

I can’t find my tunes (or .ecu file) after running through the wizard.

Sometimes, the WAR Chip wizard trips up do to unique circumstances related to a specific laptop or desktop. If you open the WAR Chip program the very first time and have a blank interface, you will need to add your .ECU file manually as well as open the 4 tunes and write them. After the wizard has run, you will find those files located in this directory: C:/documentsandsettings/ “username” /wc

Where can I re-download the WAR tuning program from?

If you need to run the wizard again, please follow this link:
www.millerperformancecars.com/customer99/wiz/

Where can I download more tunes from?

The WAR Room is back up and running. It is at the bottom of this forum. There, you can go in to the corresponding section for your ECU and browse/download any and all tunes available there.

I can't replicate your problem. What color is WAR Chip? If you are getting an incompatible data file error, you MAY be using old tunes that the person provided you. There is a change in tune encryption structure from V1 to V2 software/files. If you are using the tunes from the setup wizard, all should be good. If you need to find those files, they are located at.

C:/documentsandsettings/ “username” /wc

Turn LC on, save the file ( I always save it with a different name ie 16psi final tune LC on) open the saved file back into the WAR Chip software and the first RPM limit slot will have a 0. In version 3.0 coming soon, this will automatically adjust in real time. The way the software is written now, it doesn't live update the axis.

Found the answer! the base map i was usuing was for some reason making the car run like crap but i wrote a new map and it fired right up! just getting the clutch broken in now then off to the tuner!

By new map, do you mean you just reloaded the proper base tune? When starting off with a new setup, we always recommend running the same tune in all positions to ensure you do not accidentally use a tune made for some other application.
