Fitting chip into 404 DME?
« on: October 03, 2013, 06:02:47 PM »

Got a real tight fit between the USB cable end of the war chip and this big metal thing inside my 404 DME.  The chip is installed according to the notch in the chip that came out.  Would have a lot more room if I dunked it in the other way around but I believe that wouldn't work right?  As it is the upper board will not seat in place due to this interference.

The 404 is the toughest ECU to fit. That metal clamp can be modified. We usually pull it off carefully and grind the material away to help make more room. While it is possible to make it fit without the grinding, it is advised to take a little time to do so. That metal is clamped by spring tension and with a little bit of massaging, comes off ok. Just don't force it.

Can I run without the clip?  I'm guessing these things are coil drivers and the clip holds them to the heat sink?
