E30 325i difficulty fine tuning
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:42:09 AM »

I just finished rebuilding my 89 325i with an Ireland Engineering 2.9 Stroker kit, HP cam (street/race), Ireland shorty headers tuned Schnitzer exhaust, FSE adjustable fuel reg, Miller MAF and war chip, custom 19# Bosch injectors, Bavarian HP ignition wires, Carbon-dynamic cone filter, etc. After much experimentation I set the idle fuel pressure at 42# and although it lopes a few times at startup it levels put after 3 or 4 lopes to 900 rpm. This is a very nicely done motor and runs strong and smooth, however, 1st gear it feels like it could accelerate about a third better, like it is starving for fuel, however, when I raise the fuel pressure even to 44# it runs poorly in the other 5 gears. Obviously it needs to brake in, and only has 700 miles on rebuild, but I think it could do better. I am a bit of a perfectionist and when I say it is about 85% there, however, I have a '88 m3 with a Stroker kit and a split second maf system, and piggy back ait fuel control for different gears (1st, 2nd gear and so on). It runs great, and can say it runs perfect. I like the Miller Maf system and want to keep it. What do I do to get it up to 100% short of switching the entire system? Please help, any suggestions (that are reasonable) would help. For example, we live in Washington state and I can take my car to Miller in Vancouver; would that be best???

Our dyno now resides in California so getting a tune done in Vancouver is no longer an option. What is the air fuel ratio doing under said condition in 1st gear? If you don't have that basic info you can't help yourself nor can we help you.
